about

Mixing compositions for solo piano with multiple layers of field-recordings, ‘Life in Miniature’ is an album of experimental, minimalist music by multi-instrumentalist Thom Carter.

The piano was recorded with a single Rode NT1-A mic, and the environmental sounds on the field-recordings were all made along the South Coast of England on a Zoom H2 portable recorder. They include rain and a thunderstorm, a woman and her dogs, the droning sound of an Early Warning radar system revolving at Fairlight, distant traffic, a walk through Hastings town centre on a Saturday night, and the ever-present sound of the sea.

Reviews:

"This work is ideal for quiet hours before the fireplace, where you just be yourself and forget everything around them and eager to discover a new world of sound. Engage in this work means breaking new ground. What are you waiting for?" (Heartbeat Media, www.heartbeatmedia.de/2010/12/15/needleleaf-life-in-miniature/ )
